Grand Forks, North Dakota is a thriving area with many different opportunities to view excellent performances from various performing art groups. Throughout the year, there are plenty of things to see if you enjoy any type of performing art. 

For instance, the North Dakota Ballet Company is a non-profit group that offers dance classes for both the trained dancer who is interested in some type of professional career, and classes for the apprentice dancer who wants to learn how to dance. The North Dakota Ballet Company began in 1962 with the vision of providing instruction in classical ballet and many other dance forms. They have classes for people of all ages from beginning classes to pre-professional classes. Many of the students come from the University of North Dakota, the Grand Forks Air Force Base and even from the surrounding states. Another great venue for performing arts is the University of North Dakota Department of Theater Arts which is known as the leading program of this kind in the region. The Department received National Accreditation in 1986. They have a talented staff that includes every aspect of theater production. Upcoming productions include “Dames at Sea”, which is a musical that every member of the family can enjoy and is a nostalgic spoof of the 1930 Hollywood musicals. The Department of Theater Arts will also be performing Henrik Ibsens’s “A Doll’s House”, which is a stirring look at the traditional roles of Victorian men and women. The North Dakota Museum of Art also sponsors a variety of musical concerts for the community to enjoy. The next performance in the musical concert series is the Manhattan Piano Trio. The North Dakota Museum of Art can be found on the campus of the University of North Dakota. One of their main goals is to bring art, culture and performers to this rural part of the United States. Other upcoming events in the concert series include the Moscow String Quartet and Stephen Marchionda, a classical guitarist. Tickets can be purchased for the entire series or for one performance. Other opportunities for performing arts events include the local Fire Hall Community Theater which also offers productions of various plays throughout the year. This community theater was founded in 1947 to provide entertainment to the Grand Forks community. It is currently one of the ten oldest theaters of its kind in the United States and has the distinction of owning a theater in which to perform. They purchased the local fire hall from the city and renovated it so that it can accommodate one hundred guests.
