Plains Art Museum - Fargo, North Dakota
Plains Art Museum - Fargo, North Dakota
The Museum is in a renovated redesigned turn-of-the-century warehouse formerly an International Harvestor (IH) branch house in downtown Fargo, North Dakota. It opened to the public in October 1997.
The work was directed by Hammel Green & Abrahamson, Inc., whose work also can be seen in the award-winning Minnesota History Center, the Walker Arts Center and the Minneapolis Institute of the Arts.
Plains Art Museum facility features 56,000 square feet of display space, conference areas, meeting rooms and banquet facilities.
The Museum offers approximately 12 special exhibitions along with smaller exhibitions each year. These exhibitions feature art of the 20th and 21st centuries.
To allow those unable to get to the Museum, the Museum operates the Rolling Plains Art Gallery. This offering is a climate-controlled gallery in a semi-trailer that houses original art work from the Museum’s collection and travels with an art educator to communities throughout North Dakota and Minnesota.
The permanent collection contains approximately 3,000 works including national and regional contemporary art, traditional American Indian art, and traditional folk art.
