Olson’s Service Station – Sentinel Butte, North Dakota
Seriously, you need to stop and see the place where the townspeople trust each other in a way that can only be imagined by people from anyplace else. The owners of teh Olson’s Service Station didn’t want to have to be ready to service customers from town 24 hours a day so they gave everyone in town a key to the gas station where they could get their gas, put the reciept in the slot in the door and get billed for the gas later. Seriously, can you even begin to think of many places where there is that much trust in your fellow townspeople?
The station has been featured on Ophra, Travels with Harry and nearly 50 national and international radio stations. Now, just because the town only has 50 people in it doesn’t diminish the uniqueness of this trust level.
Sentinel Butte, North Dakota is south of Interstate 94 on Old Hwy 10.
